Shamrock Sports Management (SSM) was created to provide advice and assistance to young hockey players and their families wishing to move on to higher levels. SSM is there to help manage the many hockey opportunities and decisions they will be faced with.
SSM‘s role with these young student-athletes can be summarized in four key areas:
• Evaluate– listen and learn the goals of the student-athlete and his family; determine the current skill sets both academically and athletically
• Advice– provide direction to all the participants with regards to the best game plan to achieve their goals including academics, training, skills development
• Market– promote the player to those programs identified to be the best fit for their skill set and their long range goals
• Mentor– give honest, helpful feedback and shared experience to assist the player and family as they progress down their path.
Families are faced with difficult decisions on an ongoing basis. Most are working with a limited amount of knowledge and all are anxious to make the right decision. Too often decisions are made which are irreversible.
SSM is able to assist families in making good, timely choices from the number of options that are presented to them. We are able to assist families in sorting through the amount of misinformation that is out there.
I built Shamrock Sports Management to harness and house my 40 plus years experience as a player, coach, manager and executive and share it with families and student-athletes who possess both above average on ice abilities and off ice character.
Nick's hockey career was cut short by a serious injury when playing at St. Mike's. He went on to obtain his B. Comm. from Queen's University and M.B.A from York and spent his entire business career on Bay St. holding several senior positions. At the same time he turned his passion for hockey to coaching and working with young players at the minor and junior ranks. He is the former General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations of the St. Michael's Buzzer's and Milton Merchants of the OPJHL as well as having served as the Governor for both organizations. In addition to his many years of coaching he has been an evaluator in the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence and maintains a constant dialogue with both NCAA and major junior coaches.
